Bobcat S770 maintenance schedule: hour by hour

Updated · Reviewed by Israel Margulies, founder and CEO of High Point GPS

Per Bobcat's service chart for the S770 with a Tier 4 engine, change the engine oil and filter at the first 50 hours and then every 500 hours or 12 months, replace the hydraulic filter, hydraulic fluid and chaincase fluid every 1,000 hours or 12 months, the coolant every 1,500 hours or 24 months, and the DEF filter every 3,000 hours or 36 months.

What is different about servicing a Bobcat S770

The Bobcat S770 is a large-frame, vertical lift skid steer, built for heavy buckets, pallet forks and high-flow attachments. Contractors and rental fleets use it for loading trucks, material handling and attachment work where a 600-frame machine runs out of lift.

Its service chart adds two things a smaller S650 chart doesn't have. The Tier 4 S770 uses diesel exhaust fluid, and Bobcat replaces the DEF filter every 3,000 hours or 36 months. Its daily cooling-system cleanout also includes the screens on the rear door and engine cover, not only the radiator, coolers and grille. Like any skid steer it drives through chaincases, so the chaincase level is checked every 50 hours and the fluid replaced at 1,000.

Check which engine your S770 has before you use a schedule. Bobcat publishes separate charts for the Tier 3, Interim Tier 4 and Tier 4 S770. The Interim Tier 4 chart adds 1,500-hour checks of the fuel injectors, EGR cooler and crankcase ventilation filter and 3,000-hour turbocharger, DPF and EGR service, and replaces the coolant every 24 months. Bobcat's 2015 Tier 4 chart also lists an engine valve clearance adjustment at 1,000 hours; its current chart doesn't, so confirm that item with your dealer or manual.

Typical Bobcat S770 maintenance schedule

  • Every 10 hours or daily: Check engine oil and hydraulic fluid levels; check coolant level cold; Check the display for air filter and fuel filter service, remove trapped water when indicated; Clean the hydraulic cooler and radiator, fuel cooler, A/C condenser, rear grille and the rear door and engine cover screens; Grease lift arm, lift link, cylinder and Bob-Tach pivot pins and wedges; Test the seat bar, control interlocks and BICS; Check tires (inflate to the sidewall maximum); check wheel nuts daily for the first 30 hours; Check horn, back-up alarm, lights, cab fasteners, safety signs; clean heater and A/C filters
  • Every 50 hours: Check hydraulic hoses and tubelines; Check the chaincase fluid level; Check parking brake, pedals and hand controls or joysticks; Check wheel nuts and tighten to torque; First 50 hours only: change engine oil and filter, check the engine/hydrostatic drive belt
  • Every 100 hours: Check battery cables and connections; Change engine oil and filter every 100 hours under severe conditions
  • Every 250 hours or 12 months: Check the engine/hydrostatic drive belt and the accessory belts; Check the BICS lift arm bypass control
  • Every 500 hours or 12 months: Change engine oil and filter; Replace the main fuel filter element; Replace the hydraulic charge filter and reservoir breather cap; Clean the heater coil, A/C evaporator and plenum drains
  • Every 1,000 hours or 12 months: Replace the hydraulic/hydrostatic filter and the hydraulic reservoir fluid; Replace the chaincase fluid; Replace the fuel pre-filter element (current Bobcat chart)
  • Every 1,500 hours or 24 months: Replace the engine coolant
  • Every 3,000 hours or 36 months: Replace the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) filter

Bobcat S770 daily inspection checklist

  • Walk around for leaks, damage and loose parts
  • Engine oil, hydraulic fluid and coolant levels
  • Air filter and fuel filter indicators
  • Radiator, coolers, grille and rear door screens clean
  • DEF level on the display
  • Lift arm, link, cylinder and Bob-Tach pins greased
  • Bob-Tach wedges engaged on the attachment
  • Seat belt, seat bar and interlocks
  • BICS lockout with the seat bar raised
  • Tires, pressure and wheel nuts
  • Horn, back-up alarm and lights
  • High-flow couplers clean and not leaking

What fails on Bobcat S770 skid steers, and how to prevent it

  • Cooling package and screens: Overheat warnings on hot days or with high-flow attachments. Clean the coolers, grille and rear door and engine cover screens every 10 hours, more often in debris
  • Chaincase: Low fluid, noise or uneven travel on one side. Check every 50 hours, replace the fluid at 1,000 hours or 12 months
  • Hydraulic charge filter: Sluggish drive or hydraulics, filter warnings. Replace with the breather cap every 500 hours or 12 months
  • Emissions system (DEF): DEF or aftertreatment warnings, reduced power. Use clean DEF and replace the DEF filter at 3,000 hours or 36 months
  • Lift arm pivots: Pin play and bushing wear under heavy loads. Grease every 10 hours and inspect pins at each service

Tracking Bobcat S770 skid steers in FleetZap

Set up S770 services as hour-based PM schedules (50, 250, 500, 1,000 hours and up) and FleetZap opens the work order automatically when the hour meter gets there, with the task list from the chart attached.

Put a QR label in the cab for the daily check. Include the screen cleanout and DEF level so they are checked every shift. A failed item opens a repair work order for that machine.

Hours come in from meter readings in the field app or from an optional GPS tracker, and the filters and oil you use go on the work order as parts, so each machine keeps its own service and parts history.

Frequently asked questions

How often should you change the oil on a Bobcat S770?

Per Bobcat's service chart for the Tier 4 S770: at the first 50 hours, then every 500 hours or 12 months, and every 100 hours under severe conditions. Check the chart for your engine version.

What are the Bobcat S770 service intervals?

Bobcat lists 10, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 3,000-hour services, each with a calendar limit, whichever comes first. The 3,000-hour item is the DEF filter on Tier 4 machines.

How often do you change the hydraulic fluid on a Bobcat S770?

Every 1,000 hours or 12 months, together with the hydraulic/hydrostatic filter. The hydraulic charge filter and the reservoir breather cap are replaced every 500 hours or 12 months.

When do you change the chaincase oil on a Bobcat S770?

Check the level every 50 hours and replace the fluid every 1,000 hours or 12 months, per Bobcat's chart.

How often is the coolant changed on a Bobcat S770?

Every 1,500 hours or 24 months on Bobcat's Tier 4 chart. The Interim Tier 4 chart replaces it every 24 months.
