Bobcat T770 maintenance schedule and service intervals

Updated · Reviewed by Israel Margulies, founder and CEO of High Point GPS

Per Bobcat's service chart for the T770 with a Tier 4 engine, check track tension and sprocket bolts every 50 hours, change the engine oil and filter every 500 hours or 12 months (first change at 50 hours), replace the hydraulic filter and fluid every 1,000 hours or 12 months, the coolant every 1,500 hours or 24 months, and the DEF filter every 3,000 hours or 36 months.

Bobcat T770 service: tracks, drive motors and engine versions

The Bobcat T770 is a large-frame, vertical lift compact track loader, popular with excavation, site prep and rental fleets for truck loading, grading and high-flow attachments on soft ground. Most of its daily routine matches a skid steer: fluids, the cooling package, grease and the interlocks.

The difference is the undercarriage and drive. Instead of chaincases, a T770 drives each track through a hydrostatic drive motor, and Bobcat's chart has you replace the fluid in the drive motor (listed as the hydrostatic motor carrier, or drive motor brake cavity on the current chart) every 500 hours or 12 months. Track tension and the drive sprocket nuts or bolts are checked every 50 hours, and the daily cooling cleanout includes the screens on the rear door and engine cover.

Bobcat publishes separate T770 charts for the Tier 3, Interim Tier 4 and Tier 4 engines, so match the chart to your machine. The Tier 4 chart adds a DEF filter at 3,000 hours. The Interim Tier 4 chart adds an engine valve adjustment at 1,000 hours, fuel injector, EGR cooler and crankcase ventilation checks at 1,500 hours, turbocharger, DPF and EGR service at 3,000 hours, and replaces the coolant every 24 months. All versions shorten oil and filter life in dust, heat or with dirty fuel.

Typical Bobcat T770 maintenance schedule

  • Every 10 hours or daily: Check engine oil and hydraulic fluid levels; check coolant level cold; Check the display for air filter and fuel filter service, remove trapped water when indicated; Clean the hydraulic cooler and radiator, fuel cooler, A/C condenser, rear grille and the rear door and engine cover screens; Grease lift arm, lift link, cylinder and Bob-Tach pivot pins and wedges; Test the seat bar, control interlocks and BICS; Check horn, back-up alarm, lights, cab fasteners and safety signs; clean heater and A/C filters
  • Every 50 hours: Check track tension and adjust; Check track drive sprocket nuts or bolts and tighten to torque; Check hydraulic hoses and tubelines; Check parking brake, pedals and hand controls or joysticks; First 50 hours only: change engine oil and filter, check the engine/hydrostatic drive belt
  • Every 100 hours: Check battery cables and connections; Change engine oil and filter every 100 hours under severe conditions
  • Every 250 hours or 12 months: Check the engine/hydrostatic drive belt and the accessory belts; Check the BICS lift arm bypass control
  • Every 500 hours or 12 months: Change engine oil and filter; Replace the main fuel filter element; Replace the hydraulic charge filter and reservoir breather cap; Replace the fluid in the hydrostatic drive motors; Clean the heater coil, A/C evaporator and plenum drains
  • Every 1,000 hours or 12 months: Replace the hydraulic/hydrostatic filter and the hydraulic reservoir fluid; Replace the fuel pre-filter element
  • Every 1,500 hours or 24 months: Replace the engine coolant
  • Every 3,000 hours or 36 months: Replace the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) filter

Bobcat T770 daily inspection checklist

  • Walk around for leaks and damage
  • Engine oil, hydraulic fluid and coolant levels
  • Air filter and fuel filter indicators
  • Coolers, grille and rear door screens clean
  • Packed mud and debris cleared from the undercarriage
  • Tracks: cuts, missing lugs, exposed cords
  • Rollers and idlers turning, no oil weeping
  • Lift arm, link, cylinder and Bob-Tach pins greased
  • Seat belt, seat bar and BICS interlock
  • Horn, back-up alarm and lights
  • DEF level on the display
  • Attachment locked on the Bob-Tach

What fails on Bobcat T770 track loaders, and how to prevent it

  • Track tension: Track derailing, or a tight track that wears sprockets and rollers fast. Check and adjust every 50 hours, and clean the undercarriage before checking
  • Drive sprocket bolts: Loose sprocket, clicking under load. Check torque every 50 hours as the chart lists
  • Hydrostatic drive motors: Leaks at the motor, weak travel on one side. Replace the drive motor fluid every 500 hours or 12 months
  • Cooling package: Overheat warnings with high-flow attachments. Clean coolers and screens every 10 hours, more often in mulching or dust
  • Rollers and idlers: Flat spots, seized rollers, oil weeping. Clean the undercarriage daily and inspect rollers at every track tension check

Tracking Bobcat T770 track loaders in FleetZap

Set up T770 services as hour-based PM schedules (50, 250, 500, 1,000 hours and up) and FleetZap opens the work order automatically when the hour meter gets there, with the task list from the chart attached.

Put a QR label in the cab for the daily check. Add track condition and undercarriage cleanout to Bobcat's 10-hour items. A failed item opens a repair work order for that machine.

Hours come in from meter readings in the field app or from an optional GPS tracker, and the filters and oil you use go on the work order as parts, so each machine keeps its own service and parts history.

Frequently asked questions

How often do you change the oil in a Bobcat T770?

Per Bobcat's Tier 4 T770 chart: at the first 50 hours, then every 500 hours or 12 months, and every 100 hours under severe conditions.

What are the Bobcat T770 service intervals?

Bobcat lists 10, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 3,000-hour services, each with a calendar limit, whichever comes first. Track tension and sprocket bolts are 50-hour items.

How often should the Bobcat T770 hydraulic fluid be changed?

Every 1,000 hours or 12 months, with the hydraulic/hydrostatic filter. The charge filter and reservoir breather cap are replaced every 500 hours.

How often do you check track tension on a Bobcat T770?

Bobcat's chart lists track tension every 50 hours. Many operators also look at the tracks daily, since mud packing changes tension during the day.

What does the Bobcat T770 500-hour service include?

Engine oil and filter, the main fuel filter, the hydraulic charge filter and breather cap, the hydrostatic drive motor fluid, and cleaning the heater coil and A/C evaporator, plus the 50, 100 and 250-hour items.
