Genie GTH-5519 maintenance schedule: quarterly, annual and by hours
Updated · Reviewed by Israel Margulies, founder and CEO of High Point GPS
Per Genie's maintenance manual for the GTH-5519, lubricate the boom daily, do the quarterly and annual inspections on the calendar, service the Deutz engine by hours (fuel pre-filter at 250, engine oil and filter, air filter and fuel filter at 500, more items at 1,000), and test or replace the hydraulic oil at 2,000 hours.
Genie GTH-5519 maintenance: calendar inspections plus engine hours
The Genie GTH-5519 is a compact telehandler with a 5,500 lb maximum lift capacity in Genie's specs, built for tight sites, farms and rental fleets that need a forklift with reach. Many operators share one, so the daily pre-use check and the quarterly inspection record carry most of the safety work.
Genie splits its telehandler maintenance into calendar and hour items. Quarterly, you check the boom wear pads, battery, wiring, exhaust, tires and lug nut torque, fork level and auxiliary hoses, tank cap venting, the hydraulic oil, the engine air filter and the driveshaft grease, and look for open bulletins. Annually, you inspect the forks and replace the hydraulic tank return filter and the cab air filter. A new machine gets a one-time 50-hour service (tires and lug nuts, hydraulic filters, belt tension, engine mounts, hose clamps) and a 150-hour hydraulic oil inspection.
Hour items follow the Deutz TD 2.9 L4 engine fitted to the GTH-5519: daily engine checks, fuel pre-filter at 250 hours, engine oil and filter, air filter, valve clearance and fuel filter at 500, and fuel filters, belt and hose checks at 1,000. Genie's specs list 8.5 qt of engine oil with filter, 3.3 gal of coolant, a 16.4 gal hydraulic tank, 295 ft-lb lug nut torque and 65 psi in air-filled tires. These figures are from manual 1272858GT for serial GTH5514B-101 and later; Genie asks owners to keep inspection reports for at least 4 years.
Typical Genie GTH-5519 maintenance schedule

- First 50 and 150 hours (new machine): 50 hours: inspect tires, wheels and lug nut torque; replace the hydraulic filters; 50 hours: check belt tension, engine mounts and hose clamps; 150 hours: visually inspect the hydraulic oil
- Every 250 hours: Clean the fuel pre-cleaner or pre-filter; Check the cooling system
- Every 500 hours: Replace engine oil and filter; Replace the air filter and the fuel filter/separator; Check and adjust valve clearance; test the engine coolant; Inspect the air intake pipes and V-belts
- Quarterly: Check boom wear pads; inspect fork level and auxiliary hydraulic hoses; Inspect tires, wheels and lug nut torque; Inspect battery, electrical wiring and exhaust system; Inspect fuel and hydraulic tank cap venting; visually inspect the hydraulic oil; Inspect the engine air filter; lubricate the driveshaft; Check for open bulletins and owner registration
- Annually: Inspect the forks; Replace the hydraulic tank return filter element; Replace the cab air intake filter (if equipped)
- Every 1,000 hours: Engine: replace the fuel filter cartridge and fuel pre-filter, check engine mounts, hoses and clamps, V-rib belt and tensioner, battery and cables; Axles: do the 1,000-hour axle service in the manual for your axle

What fails on Genie GTH-5519 telehandlers, and how to prevent it
- Boom wear pads: Boom sticks, chatters or sags, dry contact surfaces. Lubricate the boom every 8 hours or daily and check pads quarterly
- Forks: Cracks, bent tines, heel wear. Look at them on every pre-use check and do Genie's annual fork inspection
- Hydraulic oil and filters: Dark or milky oil, slow boom functions. Replace filters at 50 hours and the return filter yearly, test or replace the oil at 2,000 hours
- Tires and lug nuts: Loose nuts, low pressure, cuts. Torque to 295 ft-lb and keep air tires at 65 psi, checked quarterly and on the daily walk-around
- Engine air filter: Low power, black smoke in dust. Clean the discharge valve daily, inspect quarterly and replace at 500 hours
Tracking Genie GTH-5519 telehandlers in FleetZap
Set the 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,000-hour Deutz and hydraulic services as hour-based PM schedules, and FleetZap opens the work order automatically when the hour meter gets there.
Put a QR label in the cab for the pre-use check, including boom lubrication and the forks. A failed item opens a repair work order for that telehandler.
Hours come in from meter readings in the field app or from an optional GPS tracker, and filters and oil go on the work order as parts, so each telehandler keeps its own service and parts history.
