John Deere 333G maintenance schedule and service intervals

Updated · Reviewed by Israel Margulies, founder and CEO of High Point GPS

Per John Deere's service interval chart for the 333G, change the engine oil and filter, both fuel filters and the hydrostatic planetary gear case oil every 500 hours, drain and refill the hydraulic oil and replace its filters every 1,000 hours, check valve lash at 1,500, service the DEF filters at 2,000, and drain and refill the cooling system at 6,000 hours.

Servicing the 333G: planetaries, hydraulics and fluid sampling

The John Deere 333G is Deere's largest compact track loader, used by excavation, grading, forestry and rental fleets for heavy loading and high-flow attachments. It is a big-hour machine in many fleets, so keeping its services on the hour meter matters more than on a loader that sits half the year.

Two things stand out on Deere's 333G chart. The hydrostatic planetary gear case oil is drained and refilled after the first 50 hours and then every 500 hours, along with the engine oil and the primary and final fuel filters. Deere also builds fluid sampling into the schedule: an engine oil sample every 250 hours and hydraulic oil and coolant samples every 500, and notes that intervals may be adjusted based on the results.

The intervals here come from the chart Deere publishes for the 333G from PIN 1T0333G__F300253 on, reprinted in its parts guide for PIN F387881 and later. Deere's guide lists 3.3 gal of John Deere Plus-50 II engine oil, 8.7 gal of John Deere Hydrau hydraulic and hydrostatic oil and 3.9 gal of Cool-Gard II pre-mix coolant. Earlier serial ranges have their own guides, and the operator's manual sets oil viscosity by temperature, so check yours.

Typical John Deere 333G maintenance schedule

  • Every 10 hours or daily: Check engine oil, coolant and hydraulic oil levels; Lubricate the boom linkage, cylinder pivot points and Quik-Tatch linkage; Lubricate the anti-vibration bogie pivot (if equipped)
  • As required: Check and clean the cooling package; Check and drain the primary fuel filter and water separator; drain water and sediment from the fuel tank; Replace the primary air filter element (the secondary every third primary change); Service the exhaust filter; check the accessory belt, cab filters, steering mistracking and battery terminals
  • First 50 hours, then every 50 hours: First 50 hours: drain and refill the hydrostatic planetary gear case oil; Every 50 hours: check and clean the dust unloader valve; Every 50 hours: check track tension
  • Every 250 hours: Take an engine oil sample
  • Every 500 hours: Drain and refill engine oil and replace the oil filter; Drain and refill the hydrostatic planetary gear case oil; Replace the primary fuel filter and water separator and the final fuel filter; Replace the hydraulic oil reservoir breather; Take hydraulic oil and engine coolant samples
  • Every 1,000 hours: Drain and refill hydraulic oil and replace the filter elements; Check coolant condition; Replace the fuel tank breather and the auxiliary fuel tank breather
  • Every 1,500 hours: Check and adjust engine valve lash
  • Every 2,000 hours: Replace the DEF dosing unit filter and the DEF header suction filter; Clean the DEF tank and replace the DEF baffle
  • Every 4,000 and 6,000 hours: 4,000 hours: replace the DEF tank breather filter; 6,000 hours: drain and refill the cooling system

John Deere 333G daily inspection checklist

  • Walk around for leaks and damage
  • Engine oil level
  • Coolant level
  • Hydraulic oil level
  • Boom linkage and cylinder pivots greased
  • Quik-Tatch linkage greased and pins locked
  • Bogie pivots greased (if equipped)
  • Cooling package free of debris
  • Fuel filter water separator checked
  • Undercarriage cleaned out, tracks and rollers checked
  • Seat belt and control interlocks
  • Lights, horn and back-up alarm

What fails on John Deere 333G track loaders, and how to prevent it

  • Hydrostatic planetary gear cases: Leaks, noise or metal in the drained oil. Change the oil at the first 50 hours, then every 500 hours, and sample it
  • Undercarriage and track tension: Derailing, fast roller and sprocket wear. Check tension every 50 hours and clean packed material out daily
  • Cooling package: Overheat warnings, especially with high-flow tools. Check and clean as required, which on dusty or mulching jobs means daily
  • Fuel system: Water in fuel warnings, hard starting. Drain the water separator as required and replace both fuel filters every 500 hours
  • Aftertreatment (DEF): DEF system warnings, derate. Use clean DEF and do the 2,000 and 4,000-hour DEF filter items

Tracking John Deere 333G track loaders in FleetZap

Set up 333G services as hour-based PM schedules (50, 250, 500, 1,000 hours and up) and FleetZap opens the work order automatically when the hour meter gets there, with the task list from the chart attached.

Put a QR label in the cab for the daily check. Add the daily level checks and Quik-Tatch greasing from Deere's 10-hour list. A failed item opens a repair work order for that machine.

Hours come in from meter readings in the field app or from an optional GPS tracker, and the filters and oil you use go on the work order as parts, so each machine keeps its own service and parts history.
